Welcome to the Old Douglas County Courthouse, check out our new website.
When the new courthouse was opened in 1998, the old courthouse was declared "surplus" and slated for sale and disposal. The Douglas County Tourism and History Commission persuaded the Board of Commissioners to save the building because of its unique architectural style and it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Old Courthouse now houses the Douglas County Museum of History and Art.
Here are some of the exhibits and collections on view:
Coca Cola memorabilia
Early medical items
History of local Mills
School lunchboxes and children’s phonographs
A tribute to our veterans
Groups of 10 or more wishing to tour the Museum are requested to call ahead for a reservation. Admission is always free, however donations are always appreciated!
