Sheriff's Office

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is a full-service agency that provides law enforcement for all of Douglas County. The City of Douglasville Police Department, Villa Rica Police Department, and Austell Police Department all operate within Douglas County and are the primary law enforcement agency within their respected incorporated cities, but the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office cooperates with and supports each of the police departments when requested.

Positions & Duties

Sheriff

The Sheriff is elected by the people of Douglas County and is the head law enforcement officer for the County. The Sheriff is responsible for the Mission and Vision of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Chief Deputy

The Chief Deputy is responsible for and has authority and responsibility for the coordination of the management, direction and control of the operations and administration of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, as directed by the Sheriff, and reports directly to the Sheriff. The Chief Deputy has command authority for the agency in the absence of the Sheriff.

Colonel

The Colonel is responsible for and has authority for the coordination of the management, direction and control of the operating and administration of this agency, as assigned by the Chief Deputy. The Colonel reports directly to the Chief Deputy and has command authority for the agency in the absence of the Sheriff and Chief Deputy.

Major

The position of Major is responsible for the administration of the assigned division(s), commanders and general operations.
