Douglas County Commissioners Adopt Updated Comprehensive Plan

Document Will Serve as Guiding Force for County’s Planning and Development

(Douglasville, Georgia) – The Douglas County Board of Commissioners has adopted the 2023 Comprehensive Plan Update. The unanimous vote during Tuesday’s BOC meeting followed a series of public hearings and opportunities for community feedback for more than a year. The Plan was reviewed at the regional and state levels before prior to adoption this week.

The Comprehensive Plan is required by state law to be updated every five years. The Plan anticipates future growth through the lens of land use, transportation, housing, and greenspace opportunities. Since the August 2022 public engagement kick-off, the community has been invited to share its vision for the future through a variety of in-person and online engagement events. The final document reflects the values and priorities of the community as expressed through documented business and citizen input.

“This plan clearly delineates areas for growth and areas for preservation,” said Douglas County Planning and Zoning Manager, Allison Duncan.  “The community has expressed their vision, and I hope they will stay involved to drive the implementation of the plan.”

The final plan will guide policy and decision making by the County’s leadership. County staff will take immediate action on plan recommendations. This includes proposed amendments to the zoning code and the initiation of supplemental studies.

The community will be invited to participate in a small area plan for the Highway 92 Corridor beginning in January 2024.  This corridor was first studied in 2007 as a part of the ‘Livable Centers Initiative’ of the Atlanta Regional Commission.

The Plan document, as well as all of the work that informed the final vision, is available on the project website at https://www.celebratedouglascounty.com/727/Comprehensive-Plan-Update
