District 4 Commissioner Mark Alcarez has been elected Vice-Chair of the Douglas County Board of Commissioners following a unanimous vote during the BOC’s legislative meeting on Tuesday, February 20, 2024.

Alcarez, a lifelong resident of Douglas County, was first elected to office in 2023 to serve the constituents of District 4. Prior to serving on the BOC, Commissioner Alcarez was an application concept designer, collaborating with Fortune 500 companies and overseeing all sales representatives in the US and Puerto Rico. Additionally, he played a pivotal role as partner in a construction company and has been a business owner for 14 years. He also served as Chief Deputy Coroner for Douglas County, receiving the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s 2015 Coroner of the Year award for investigating and preventing child deaths.

“It is an honor to serve in this capacity,” said Vice-Chair Alcarez. “I look forward to working with my colleagues and County Administration to move this county forward with thoughtful leadership and good stewardship over taxpayers’ resources,” said Alcarez.

In addition to his new role as Vice-Chair, Commissioner Alcarez leads and serves on several internal and external committees and boards. He currently serves as Chair of the BOC’s Public Safety, Transportation, and Residential Development committees. He is also Vice-Chair of the Tax Abatement/Economic Development, Stakeholders, Benefits, and Pension Advisory Board committees.

During his tenure as District 4 Commissioner, Alcarez has also served on the Douglas County Community Service Board and is the previous Chairman of the Douglas County Department of Family and Children Services Board.

Vice-Chair Alcarez is filling the unexpired 2023-24 term of former Vice-Chair and District 3 Commissioner Tarenia Carthan following her resignation last week.
