The newly hired officials include the following roles:  Fire Chief, Chief Financial Officer, Managing Director of General Services, and Parks and Recreation Director. The hirings were approved by unanimous vote during the Board of Commissioners legislative meeting on Tuesday, March 5, 2024.

Interim Fire Chief, Dr. Miles Allen, has been named the County’s new Fire Chief. Chief Allen brings 35 years of extensive experience in firefighting and emergency response management to the County. Allen has also ushered in leadership training opportunities for his team and new innovations in equipment during his interim tenure.

The role of Chief Financial Officer will be filled by Dominic Ochei, whose financial acumen and strategic vision will play a pivotal role in guiding the county's fiscal policies and budgetary decisions. With a keen understanding of financial management and resource allocation, Ochei will ensure transparency and accountability in all financial matters. A skilled government financial officer with more than 20 years of leadership experience at the major metropolitan and international levels, Ochei has built a broad skillset that includes budgeting, accounting, procurement, grants administration and risk management. He is a skilled, results-oriented financial officer focused on fiscal responsibility and process improvement.

Danielle Nichols, the County’s Human Resources Director, has been given the added responsibility of overseeing the General Services Division as Managing Director. In addition to Human Resources, the Division includes the Information Services, Records, Animal Services, and Risk and Safety departments.

Finally, Chad Griffin has been named Parks and Recreation Director, effective August 1, 2024.  Griffin previously served as Assistant Parks and Recreation Director prior to this promotion.  With a proven track record in parks management and community engagement, Griffin will continue to spearhead initiatives aimed at promoting outdoor recreation and community engagement via the County’s recreational and quality of life resources.

County Administrator, Dr. David Corbin, expressed his enthusiasm for the new leadership roles, stating, "These appointments represent a significant milestone in our journey towards progress and development. With their diverse expertise and dedication to public service, our newly hired leaders will play a vital role in advancing our mission of moving the county forward. I look forward to their contributions and working collaboratively to enhance the quality of life for our constituents as we strive to make Douglas County an attractive destination for business and other growth opportunities, as well."

With the exception of the Parks and Recreation position, the new leadership team will assume their respective roles effective immediately.
