Douglas County Government Updates Website Domain and Social Media Names

Enhanced Security, Centralized Communication Among Key Reasons

(Douglasville, GA)- Douglas County Government is making updates to its online presence. Effective Wednesday, February 21, 2024, the County will begin the process of changing its social media name across all platforms to ‘Douglas County Government, replacing ‘Douglas County Happenings’ and other monikers. The transition could take at least three days.

In addition to social media, the County’s website has also undergone a name refresh. In January, during a soft launch, the County’s website transitioned from www.CelebrateDouglasCounty.com to www.DouglasCountyGa.gov. The website domain change aims to safeguard the county’s digital information and resources. According to cyber security experts, the use of the .gov domain for official government emails and websites enhances security versus the use of the alternative .usand .com domains. The .gov domain also hinders the ability for cybercriminals to infiltrate government websites and act in bad faith to defraud the public.

“Our goal is to not only safeguard the flow of information to and from our constituents, but to unite our digital resources under a cohesive brand for ease of reference,” said Yvette Jones, Douglas County’s Chief Communications Officer. “This transition is a significant step forward as we strive to deliver excellence in public service messaging. Expect to see other assets fall under the Douglas County Government brand in the near future,” Jones concluded.

For users’ convenience, the previous website address www.CelebrateDouglasCounty.com will automatically redirect to the new domain name www.DouglasCountyGA.gov for a period of one year in an effort to ensure a smooth transition for the County’s online services.
