(Douglasville, GA) – On Wednesday, December 4, The Douglas County Department of Transportation (DOT) broke ground on the new Douglas DOT Maintenance Building located off Chicago Avenue in Douglasville. This new, state-of-the-art, SPLOST-funded facility will support daily maintenance operations, allowing division management and field staff to be housed under one roof.
The original building, constructed in 1958, was destroyed by a fire in 2019. The new 6,384-square-foot Douglas DOT Maintenance Building will be a key component in Douglas County’s strategic plan to bolster investments in our infrastructure. Positioned in a key area, the new facility will be a centralized base of operations for on-call personnel during emergency activations.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Chairman Dr. Romona Jackson-Jones, Vice Chair and District 4 Commissioner, Mark Alcarez, District 1 Commissioner, Henry Mitchell III, and a host of colleagues. Their presence underscored the collective effort and shared vision of improving public safety and emergency services in Douglas County.
“This is a really good investment in our workforce which will, in turn, improve the quality of life and infrastructure for our residents,” said Suleman Rana, Managing Director of the Department of Transportation. “Thank you to everyone that made this project a reality. This is a team project, and we could not have done it without you.”
“This is an extremely exciting moment for me and the Board of Commissioners,” stated Chairman Dr. Romona Jackson Jones. “This building burned down in 2019, and we can’t stress enough how important it is for public safety and infrastructure to have division management and field staff under one roof to provide exceptional service to the citizens of Douglas County. We are deeply grateful to our residents for their support and the SPLOST funding that made this project possible.”
Construction of the DOT Maintenance Building is expected to be completed by summer 2025.
